Migranti
For quite a long time the Regional
administration has been working towards
the creation of a multicultural
Umbria based on social cohesion and
dialogue with the firm belief that cultural
creativity and development are
the product of the meeting of peoples
and not of their separation.
The section Migranti was born in
2007 thanks to a joint project of the
Region Umbria and the Umbria Film
Festival. The three Round Tables
organized in 2007, 2008 and 2009
started an in-depth discussion on
a variety of issues by focussing in
particular on school integration and
second generations. Youths of foreign
origin represent a significant
percentage of the school population,
they share with Italian children and
youths of their own age, the tasks,
desires, problems, dreams, trends
and anxieties of a citizenship in the
making. They undoubtedly represent
a huge opportunity of growth for this
country, which is experiencing the
significant ageing of its population,
but they also could become a problematic
reality if their feeling of belonging
to the Italian society is not fostered,
supported and strengthened.
This year’s round table “Citizens
from the world: Sharing rights and
duties in the new multicultural Italy”
has the objective of starting a reflection
on citizenship formation and on
the existing local, national and European
legislative policies related to the
rights and duties of immigrants that
are the basis of integration and safe cohesion.
