Lone Scherfig

Born in 1959, in Denmark. She studied film at the University of Copenhagen from 1976 to 1980. She graduated in directing from the National Film School of Denmark, in 1984. She has written and directed feature films, short films, texts for radio and theater, TV series, and commercials that have won various awards.
Her first hit, Kajs Fødselsdag / The Birthday Trip (1990) was selected by Panorama in Berlin, for the New Directors section at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and won the Grand Jury prize in Rouen. The children’s film Nar mor kommer hjem / On Our Own (1998) received the Grand Prix in Montreal and the Cinekid Prize in Amsterdam. Lane Scherfig’s contribution to the Dogma group, Italiensk far begyndere / Italian far Beginners (2000). was one of Danish cinema’s biggest box office successes ever and received critical acclaim. The film was also awarded in Berlin. His English-language film Wilbur Wants To Kill Himself (2002) was screened at festivals around the world, winning awards in France, Portugal, the U.S. and Japan.
