Peter Lord

Peter Lord is co-owner and Creative Director of Aardman, which he co-founded with his lifelong collaborator David sproxton in 1972. As a director, Lord has received two Academy Award® nominations for Best Animated Short, the first in 1992 for Adam and again in 1996 for Wat’s Pig. He also earned BAFTA nominations for Adam, The Amazing Adventures of Morph and War Story. Lord met David Sproxton in the early 1970s at school, where they began experimenting with animation techniques on the kitchen table. They tried several methods before deciding on animation based on plasticine/clay models. When they were still teenagers, a BBC children’s television program producer offered them the opportunity to create animated shorts for his Vision Ono program. Their first professional character was Morph, from which they later created a television series, The Amazing Adventures of Morph. In 1976 Lord and Sproxton moved to Bristol and established one of the world’s leading plasticine animation studios. In 2000, Lord collaborated with Nick Park in directing Aardman’s first Aardman lun gimme, Hens on the Run, which was a success both commercially and critically. Lord also produced the first long with Wallace and his faithful canine companion Gromit, with whom he was an Oscar winner. Wallace and Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was released in 2005. The Aardman brand of animation can also be seen in television commercials. Lord was also active in the production of the latest Aardman film, Down the Pipe, which was produced in collaboration with DreamWorks. Peter Lord is a visiting professor at the University of the West of England. In 2006 Peter Lord and David Sproxton celebrated 30 years of Aardman and were awarded the Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, a title recognizing notable successful activities within the British community. The Aardman brand has earned and earned a reputation as a world leader in plasticine animation. The studio has been nominated for Oscars® seven times, and has won four. Along with Sproxton, Lord has also played an important role in encouraging and promoting new filmmakers.
