The Logo

Our logo was created in 1993 for the 5th Umbria Film Festival by Terry Gilliam, who, enchanted by the uniqueness and magic of the event after his first participation in 1992, wanted to leave an indelible mark.

The artwork is a perfect example of Terry Gilliam’s illustrative talent, whose visionary style defined the look of the Monty Python films and continued to influence all of his subsequent works. The portrait of Battista Sforza by Piero della Francesca becomes a symbol and fusion between the past and the present, between cinema and Renaissance art.

This image was born from Gilliam’s emotion upon seeing his cinematic work projected within the medieval walls of Umbria. Since then, each year, the logo has been renewed for each edition, symbolizing the deep and lasting bond between Terry Gilliam and the Umbria Film Festival.

In 1998, Terry Gilliam was the first to receive the Keys to the City of Montone, and since 2010, he has been the Honorary President of the Umbria Film Festival. Additionally, he was awarded Honorary Citizenship of Montone, further solidifying his connection to the festival and the local community.
