The Logo

Our logo was created in 1993 for the 5th UMBRIA FILM FESTIVAL by Terry Gilliam, who was enchanted by the uniqueness and magic of our event following his first participation in 1992, when the festival was still held in Umbertide and Perugia.

The artwork is a perfect example of Terry Gilliam’s illustrative talent, which with its visionary style deeply characterized first the style of Monty Python, then all his subsequent works.
The portrait of Battista Sforza by Piero della Francesca thus becomes inspiration and fusion between past and present, between cinema and Renaissance art, even in the signatures affixed.

An image triggered by the emotion experienced upon seeing one’s film work projected within Umbria’s medieval walls. Every year since, this image has been renewed in graphics for each edition to testify to the deep and enduring bond between Terry Gilliam and the Umbria Film festival. Terry Gilliam first received the Keys to the City of Montone in 1998. He has since become Honorary President of the UMBRIA FILM FESTIVAL, and has held the Honorary Citizenship of Montone since 2010.
