The Umbria Film Festival celebrated an important birthday in 2021, marking 25 years of uninterrupted activity. This is a milestone for this event, which has always been held in person and has become a fixed appointment for tourists and film enthusiasts from all over the world who come to the Upper Tiber Valley every year in the second week of July.
To celebrate this anniversary, a series of events were organized in places of historical and artistic interest such as churches and museums, but not only. As per tradition, the cultural events took place in spaces of historical and artistic interest such as churches and cloisters. The objective was also to revitalize places of cinematic and theatrical culture that have suffered during the pandemic and that have been necessarily closed or limited in their accessibility to the public.
Nine live performances were scheduled, touching various areas of art, combining short film screenings with live music, theatrical performances, and animated readings for children.
The municipalities involved in the project were Montone, Umbertide, Città di Castello, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, and Spello.
All events were free admission, by reservation, in compliance with anti-COVID-19 regulations.

700 years after Dante's death.
The event opens with a journey through some evocative views of Città di Castello, accompanied by tercets from the first canto of Dante's Inferno: a combination of Italian literary tradition and modern visual language, an invitation to reading with visual interest for all.
It continues with readings of some cantos from the Inferno in dialogue with electronic music, which serves as a break from the classical listening of the tercets, adding a surplus of meaning.
Actors: Mauro Silvestrini, Maurizio Perugini
Live electronic music: Angelo Benedetti
Guitar: Stefano Falleri.

9:00 PM ROCCA DI BRACCIO
Nebbia – Gazebo Penguins
We're back to playing.
A year and a half after our last concert, we'll be touring for a few dates next summer.
It will be something new and old at the same time – like beer or gardening.
It will be a Seated Concert for Sad People, or a Happy Concert for Seated People, or even a Sad Concert for Happy People. We'll see.
We'll be 5 on stage and the sixth at the mixer. We'll do a dozen dates at most.
It won't exactly be an “acoustic” concert, but not a headbanging one either.
Will it be different? Clearly yes.
But it will be something.
24 FRI/FRI Spello
9:00 PM CHURCH OF SAN CLAUDIO – SPELLO
“Between Light and Darkness” – You Too Don't Deserve the End of the World – by Fabio Galeotti
The videos projected on the big screen aim to slow down the gaze: the environment, movements, and expressions change gradually, allowing the viewer to construct a thought of encounter with the moving pictorial image.
The essence of the experiment is to bring different arts into dialogue with each other: the legacy of past pictorial history, the slowed contemporary digital world, the poetry of Wislawa Szymborska, the refined and thoughtful texts of Catia Torrioli, the boundless music of Arturo Stàlteri, and the contemporary electronic music of Angelo Benedetti.
Video and direction: Fabio Galeotti
Music performed by: Angelo Benedetti (electronics), Arturo Stàlteri (piano)
Actor: Maurizio Perugini

Ginger Bender in Concert
Ginger Bender was born in 2012 from the encounter between Alessandra Di Toma and Jeanne Hadley.
They decided to form a duo to consolidate their study of jazz standards and begin to engage with an audience. They started performing in various venues in the “Milan area. They are particularly fond of street art, in fact, they have long carried on their busking activity in Italy and” abroad, because they love the special relationship that develops between the musician and their audience, the “energy of a non-verbal dialogue that becomes immediate when performing on the street.”
Languages and styles mix in their music, which is rich in influences and different sound universes: in their songs, you can hear blues, funk, afro sounds, harmonies reminiscent of old 30s jazz ballads “sung to a syncopated reggae rhythm. One of the duo's prerogatives is” improvisation, a legacy of their jazz and afro musical journey.
