Gurinder Chadha
Gurinder Chadha is an award-winning British director, screenwriter, and producer. Born in Kenya and raised
in London, she has built a solid international career exploring themes of cultural identity and the Indian
diaspora with wit and sensitivity.
She began her career in broadcast journalism for the BBC before transitioning to directing with her
acclaimed debut feature Bhaji on the Beach (1993), which earned a BAFTA nomination. She achieved global
stardom in 2002 with the cult comedy Bend It Like Beckham, a massive international box-office triumph that
received a Golden Globe nomination.
She subsequently directed major commercial and critical successes that bridge different cultures, such as
Bride and Prejudice (2004), the historical drama Viceroy’s House (2017), and Blinded by the Light (2019). For television, she also created and directed the period drama series Beecham House.
